Are you constantly feeling stressed? Does the thought of stress alone make you break out in a sweat? If you’re anything like me, then you know the feeling all too well. But what if I told you that stress is an illusion created by fear?
Yes, you read that right. Stress is just fear in disguise. Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown. It’s like an attacker who has taken up residence in your head and is holding you back from living your best life. But fear doesn’t have to be your toughest opponent. You can learn to combat it and come out victorious.
If you’re anything like me, then you can relate to what happens when stress takes the center stage in your life. The more stressed you are, the more anxious you become, the more doubt you have in yourself, the more uneasy you feel, and before you know it, you are spiraling out of control, and in that chaos, you don’t realize that fear has created all that stress. Stress is an illusion of all your fears that is preventing you from fulfilling your God given purpose.
As a martial artist, I have realized that over the years, that fear has been my toughest opponent and has continuously tried to defeat me and test me every day. It has worked hard on trying to prevent me from living my best life, from pursuing my goals and from being the best version of myself. I’ve learned that practical self-defense goes beyond physical techniques.
When we teach practical self defense, we teach our students ways to defend their physical self from an attacker or predator. But what about the attacker who lives and occupies real estate in your head? How do you combat that attacker?
Over the years, I’ve worked with some pretty inspirational and empowering people. The concepts I teach to combat fear come from a collaboration of ideas utilizing the mind, the voice and the body to stare fear in the eyes and say “I Matter!”
The first step is addressing the mindset. We set the intention and the truth.
“I…was brought into this world to fulfill my God given purpose.”
“I…have a right to be happy!”
“I…deserve to achieve my dreams!”
“I…am worthy of love!”
“I…have the right to be ME!”
Once you acknowledge these truths, you’ll find yourself on the right path to combat fear and stress.
We are all individuals who have a unique something to offer and quite frankly the world needs you.
What has fear been stopping you from achieving or pursuing in your life?
