Unsure if participating in group training at Evolve is right for you? Read on for a few key reasons why you should give it a try!
1. Discipline over motivation
Let’s face it, some days we’re just not motivated to get our daily workout and practice in - whether due to a bad day, exhaustion from the week, shifting priorities, or a host of other reasons. At Evolve, we live by the martial arts culture of discipline over motivation. Your coach is always willing, ready, and excited to give you the next piece of the puzzle toward your goals, but it’s our responsibility to show up. It helps to have a set schedule to adhere to so that even when we may not possess the motivation at a given time, we’re disciplined enough to convince ourselves not to miss a class.
2. Fun
Training alongside friends and feeling the energy of a group can be exciting and motivating. At Evolve, you will find us to be a particularly lively bunch. There is never a dull moment with this quirky and motley crew. If you ever feel timid about techniques or think you can’t do something, don’t worry. Your classmates are there to help pull you through and find a way to make you smile or laugh through your uncertainty. You’ll see that you’re not alone in how you feel. There are others in the same boat and you’ll get through together. Evolve members know how to have fun even in the midst of a challenging training session. Every class and coach is different so there’s always something new to learn and work on, making it far from boring.
3. Different Points of View
Humans are dynamic. The coaches show us particular techniques or moves, but we are each given the freedom to make that technique or move work for us in our own way depending on our skill level. What one person sees and interprets may not be the same across the board. With varying degrees of experience within each class, it’s great to have other people on the mat to observe. Perhaps you’ll find a different way to execute a move that would have never occurred to you had you been by yourself. Someone else in the class will have an alternative way of seeing the day’s lessons. We learn from each other just as much as we learn from our coaches.
4. Partner Drills
Having a variety of looks, sizes, and personalities to train and drill with is important in your learning. You will feel more comfortable and confident doing things when you try techniques with different people and learn how to adapt your training based on whom you’re facing. If you’re interested in competing, training with a myriad of partners will help prepare you for any opponent you may face. It’s also a great way to meet the rest of the class and make new friends.
5. Being a part of a supportive community
Evolve coaches are always available to help on and off the mat but so are our fellow members. We’re there to cheer each other on, encourage each other, and push each other to strive for what we may not have thought possible on our own. We come to depend on one another just as much as we depend on our coaches, adding another layer of accountability. Teamwork is a cornerstone of our training, and we operate under the tenet that the success of one is the success of all.
We hope you’ll join us on the mat soon!
